This image, entitled “2,791 million litres of water”, is an enlarged detail of a postcard from the Planas Archive, produced in the 1970s. It reflects on the scarcity of water resources on an island where swimming pools have been, and continue to be, a symbol of status and social well-being in the Anthropocene. The data has been extracted from a scientific study and metadata for this art project within the framework of the Observatory of Tourist Culture // COSTA. The image, conceived for a floating installation in a hotel swimming pool as part of the Magaluf FLEM 2024 expanded literature festival, speaks to us of the layers of memory and history. A fossil of tourist culture viewed through an environmentalist lens.
